105 Days of Summer

Or something like that...
Summer is over and I'm heading back to la ciudad de nueva york. But enough about me.

So I am pretty slow on the uptake but I finally saw (500) Days of Summer the other day and it was exactly what I expected. Spot on music choice, casting and cute, not quite predictable plot. The only thing I found odd was that I thought the movie took place in New York until halfway through when something was mentioned something about L.A architecture.

Boy meets girl, girl (Summer) is absolutely adorable (Zooey Deschanel being possibly the cutest gal on the earth) and boy (Tom) is one of those guys who don't seem to really exist in the real world (the equally adorable Joseph Gordon Levitt, who made me smile in 10 Things I Hate About You and subsequently impressed me in Brick).

Summer's dresses and quirky ensembles would have been enough to keep me watching the entire movie. But luckily the film had much more to offer.

As we get to know the two leads more and more throughout their 500 day relationship, I realized that I didn't hate Summer like I guess I was supposed to, she really was a sympathetic character to me and the movie could have been easily told from her point of view and been just as interesting...almost. She simply had a different perspective on relationships than Tom, one that I think a lot of people have at a young age. Tom just matured faster than her perhaps? Watched the Graduate one too many times?

The only thing I was ambivalent about with regards to the film was the ending. How cute. Tom  finds closure to his relationship by meeting another girl...Autumn. I mean, was that really necessary?

Yeah, it was. I would have ended it the same way if I had written the movie. With such a realistic movie, I guess a little cheese is needed for the 'aw shucks' factor.

My mom and I promptly ran to Best Buy to get the soundtrack for the movie. It's good. Go get it.

Now folks, in the future I will not wait until months after a movie comes out to review it. What fun is that? I simply had to say something about this little gem of a flick.

Writing a blog should keep me going to the movies on a weekly basis. Even if no one but my sister reads it. Isn't weird that I feel lazy when I don't go to the movies for a couple weeks? No? Ok. Fine.

True Blood tomorrow! Episode 11. How ever will I watch it from my HBO-less dorm room? Trust that I shall find a way. Nothing gets between me and my True Blood. ;)
